UPDATE: Watch a behind-the-scenes video with the women responsible for the Architecture + Women exhibition.

For Auckland Architecture Week 2013, Silo Park is host to the Between Silos exhibition. Enter the silo space to enjoy large-scale installations and to learn about women working across a range of architecture-related fields in New Zealand.

Architecture NZ editor Justine Harvey said, “After visiting the Between Silos exhibition, I thought it was particularly interesting to look at the timeline of women working as architects in New Zealand. A substantial female presence in the profession is relatively recent in our history and, even today, only around 19% of registered architects are women. For me, Between Silos reminds us of how important it is that we encourage a diverse work culture and a built environment that reflects the diversity of the people living within it.”

The exhibition celebrates the 120th year of the women’s suffrage movement in New Zealand and 20 years since the Constructive Agenda – 60 Years of Women in Architecture in New Zealand exhibition. It also marks the 80th anniversary of the first female, Merle Greenwood, to graduate with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in New Zealand.

Between Silos runs until 29 September 2013 and is open from 9am-6pm daily at Silo Park, 96 Jellicoe Street, Wynyard Quarter, Auckland City. Lunchtime talks are being held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week at 12.30pm in the adjacent tent. Architectural firm Jasmax has created its own geneology timeline that looks at women members through the history of the firm and current staff. An installation and debate will be held at the Jasmax offices tonight (Tuesday 24 September) at 6pm.
