Situated in Farm Cove on the eastern shore of the Auckland isthmus, this four-bedroom contemporary home was completed in 2012. It has sweeping views across Tamaki Strait to Waiheke Island and flows over three storeys. The top level houses the master bedroom and ensuite; a private haven separate from the other areas of the home.

Bathroom designer Celia Visser was tasked with designing the ensuite and says the brief was simple; create a luxurious yet contemporary space.

The freestanding bath, a feature in itself, sits beneath the only windows at the end of the room. Set against quilted black tiles, the eye is instantly drawn to the chromatic contrast.

To the right of the entry, glass prevails. A large glass panel separates the Corian vanity from the shower and toilet while at the same time admitting natural light into these areas. Frameless mirrors above the his and hers basins are directly attached to the glass panel, helping to maintain the sleek contemporary lines. Simple pendant lights have been used to illuminate the area.

Opposite, wall-to-ceiling glass clads sliding doors, which enclose a spacious storage area. Strip LED backlighting illuminates the doors and the combination of this and the mirrors serves to open this narrow space dramatically and bathe it in light.

A mix of tiles has been used to great effect throughout the room including black 600 x 600 tiles on the floor, while larger-format tiles in white line the side wall. Smaller black mosaics feature behind the vanity and in the shower and toilet areas.

Lacquered cabinetry along with statement tapware round out the contemporary elements of the room, where the combination of organic shapes and mixed lighting ignite an element of luxury.
