The initial round of judging for the Interior Awards 2020 has been completed and the judges reported the highest ever number of entries this year. “We are very pleased with what has ended up being a record-breaking year in terms of the number of entries,” said Federico Monsalve, convenor of the awards and Interior editor for Architecture NZ magazine.

“More than 70 architecture and design firms from around the country entered projects totalling well over 208 thousand square metres of commercial and residential real estate from across New Zealand and as far away as Australia and the Philippines,” said Monsalve. “Likewise, the calibre and depth of the projects was exceptional and a great reflection of the state of the interior sector in Aotearoa”.

Some categories this year were so closely contested that judges shortlisted four entries rather than the usual three. Through a tough and at points extensive deliberation, the jury has chosen 37 projects as finalists.

These finalists will complete a live presentation of their submission to the jury on 12 and 13 August in Auckland. Finalists’ presentations will also be streamed live on ArchitectureNow.

The winners of all 10 categories, including the newly added Residential Kitchen and Healthcare and Wellness categories, will be announced at an awards and networking event on 17 September at St. Matthews in the City in Auckland. A Supreme winner will also take home the most prestigious title of the night along with $6000 cash. Tickets will go on sale to the public for the awards night in August; subscribe to the ArchitectureNow newsletter to be the first to know when tickets are released.
