Federico Monsalve, editor of Interior magazine, catches up with Andrew Patterson of Pattersons Associates, winner of the 2015 Interior Awards Civic category for the Christchurch Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre.

Federico Monsalve: How was the Civic Award (Interior Awards 2015) received by your firm and your colleagues?

Andrew Patterson: We were very happy and grateful for the award. It was a fantastic evening and easily the best awards evening we have been to.

FM: How important are these type of accolades for you and for your firm (i.e do they translate into more commissions, do they boost brand, etc)?

AP: Everything is important and awards that have integrity to them with definite recognition of quality give us a personal satisfaction as much as boosting commissions and brand.

FM: Where do you keep the trophy?

AP: In our reception area as you enter the office.

FM: Would you recommend others enter the awards?

AP: Yes.

FM: What would you recommend to other people who are preparing to enter the awards?

AP:  To document the project well in order to make the submission easier. Base it on thinking and logic rather than simply personal whim.

The Civic category recognises a gallery, museum, concert hall, theatre, exhibition venue, place of worship, educational institution, hospital, library, community centre, consulate, law court, parliamentary building, airport, railway station, port and ferry terminal, etc.

Entries can be submitted through the Interior Awards website until Wednesday 4 May 2016.
