Welcome to issue 2 of Interior – AGM’s newest title devoted, of course, to all things relating to those things that happen inside a building.

In this issue we take a tour through the new Auckland Art Gallery with architect Richard Francis-Jones, from FJMT, and gallery director Chris Saines. We also take in the drama of Q Theatre, designed by Cheshire Architects with the help of William Ross Architects. Q is also the subject of our rather abstract cover, shot by Simon Devitt.

Elsewhere in this issue: gifted arts and culture writer Andrew Paul Wood pays a visit to two Christchurch projects – the Grand Café at Christchurch Casino and Strategy House, the new home for the award-winning designers at Strategy Design & Advertising. Back in Auckland, we also take a look at the Grill by Sean Connolly, which was given the luxe treatment by Andrew Lister; Mama Loco, a Mexican-themed joint out in the ‘burbs of Albany that has some surprising design flourishes; and last, but not least, the cool lines and clean designs of Jose Gutierrez’s Law Office.

We like interior projects, but we also like people. In this issue you’ll find Sam Haughton, from IMO, describing his modus operandi; our European correspondent Simon Bush-King meets Amsterdam-based Jasper Jansen and Jeroen Dellensen from i29, recipients of this year’s Great Indoors Awards; and, amongst other things, we find out what media two of Warren and Mahoney’s young tech gurus like to digest.
