New Plymouth architect Murali Bhaskar has been appointed as one of the judges for this year’s Dulux Colour Awards, which is now in its 32nd year.

Murali is a director at New Plymouth architectural firm Boon Goldsmith Bhaskar Brebner Team Architects and views art and architecture as inextricably linked. In his work he uses colour, graphic design, illustration and lighting as distinctive design features.

Murali says, “I am fascinated with colour. Having grown up in India, with its rich and colourful cultural heritage, I’m not afraid of using colour in my designs. Colour can add another dimension to the design and has the ability to enhance the user’s experience of space.

“I am always looking for opportunities to use colour in my work, whether it is through paint, fabric or neon lighting. I am excited to see the entries for the Dulux Colour Awards this year, particularly the projects hailing from New Zealand – hopefully they are as inspired by colour as I am.”

The only New Zealander present on the jury, Murali joins judges Miriam Fanning (founder and principal interior designer of Mim Design); David Hicks (director of David Hicks); Katelin Butler (editor of Houses AU magazine) and David Flack (founder of Flack Studio).

“Dulux looks forward to seeing how our stellar panel applies their insights and creative methods when evaluating the bold and ambitious projects submitted by New Zealand and Australian architects and designers in the awards program,” says Davina Harper, Dulux colour and design specialist.

Submissions into the 32nd Dulux Colour Awards are open now and will close on Monday 26 February 2018.
