In a new user-led approach to city building, consultation is currently underway to give the public the chance to design a new park situated in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter.

Provisionally titled Wynyard Common, the 70m by 49m park is part of a new green connection running from Victoria Park in the south along Daldy Street to the planned public open space on Wynyard Point where the area known as the Tank Farm currently stands.

Following the recent announcement of 600 homes to be built in Wynyard Quarter, the park is intended to serve as both a recreation space for visitors but also as a communal area for the 1100 residents expected to live nearby over the next five years.

Phase one of the Wynyard Common consultation was held in May, with phase two focussing on how the themes that came through in phase one can best be incorporated.

Feedback is open until 18 July via the website.

Once the consenting process is complete it is anticipated that construction will begin in 2015 with Wynyard Common opening in 2016.
