The latest issue of Urbis magazine is out and it’s focused on kitchens and bathrooms. Our cover story is a Remuera, Auckland, home with a large kitchen that is only for show (all the work is done in the large, architecturally designed scullery behind it). There’s an European church, converted by its architect owner into a home and workspace with unusual bathrooms (including a bath that can be seen from the living areas). And there’s a renovation of an old home that includes a kitchen built to look like a cabin in the woods.

We profile three people well versed in kitchens: baker Jordan Rondel; kitchen designer Ingrid Geldof; and Allistar Cox, creator of some of New Zealand’s snazziest bars and restarants. And we spotlight the very best tableware in the shops this season.

Hawke’s Bay is the subject of our travel section and where we met a handful of the region’s most creative people, and visited the area’s best restaurants, shops and public spaces. We also jet to Australia to give you a look at the architectural winners of the annual Houses Awards.
