The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has launched their 2020 International Awards programme for architecture outside the UK. Entries are accepted from any qualified architect or architectural practice around the world and must be submitted by 31 October 2019. The programme aims to “celebrate buildings that exemplify design innovation, embrace sustainable technologies and deliver meaningful social impact,” according to the Institute.

The biennial RIBA International Awards for Excellence honour 20 buildings from around the world and the RIBA International Prize is given to the most outstanding of the group. There is also the Emerging Architect Prize which is given to an individual who has been practicing for 10 years or less.

The grand jury for this year’s programme is chaired by French architect Odile Decq, who founded her own eponymous design studio and is a prominent architect and urban planner globally. “The RIBA International Prize has an incredibly important focus – to discover the best architecture for a better life – and I look forward to travelling the world to find a worthy winner,” she noted.

RIBA president Ben Derbyshire said, “We’re honoured to have such a distinguished expert panel judging this year’s awards and we encourage those eligible to apply for this opportunity for global recognition.”

Previous winners of the International Prize include UTEC (Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología) in Lima, Peru by Grafton Architects and Children Village in Brazil by Aleph Zero and Rosenbaum.
