The New Zealand Green Building Council’s annual Products and Materials Forum offers a packed programme with useful updates for product and material suppliers, designers and specifiers. Get an in-depth briefing on how products and materials are recognised in the Green Star and Homestar rating tools.

SESSION ONE: Products and materials in Green Star / Homestar rating tools (choose either the commercial or residential session)

  • Green Star: Clare Gallagher, NZGBC Senior Technical Coordinator - update on how products and materials are recognised in Green Star vs including changes to materials credits.
  • Homestar: Vanessa McGrath, NZGBC Manager of Rating Tools - update on how the new Homestar v3 rating tool recognises products and materials.

SESSION TWO: EPDs – what is the progress on Environmental Product Declarations and what should suppliers be aware of?

John McArthur, Director, Australasian EPD Programme, will talk about the process of developing an EPD; what people need to prepare, what you can expect and how to use an EPD to improve your environmental impact.

SESSION THREE: Case study - Metlifecare, NZ’s first Homestar-rated retirement village complex

Peter Kerrigan, Design Manager, Metlifecare, will explain why they decided to get a Homestar rating and the kind of products that are important in a retirement home.

Homestar Assessor Sam Dallimore from Envirospec, will talk about the rating process and how material selection played a role in the rating.

SESSION FOUR: Case study - Auckland Council’s Green Star retrofit and the circular economy model office

Andrew Walters, Acting Sustainability Manager, Auckland Council, will give an overview on the project focusing on the strategy and approach to materials – including material re-use, selection and measuring environmental benefit.

SESSION FIVE: Panel discussion

Products and materials in Homestar and Green Star projects – questions for speakers from the floor – moderated by Vanessa McGrath, NZGBC.
