2012 Gisborne and Hawkes Bay Architecture Awards
Five architectural projects in Gisborne and the Hawkes Bay have been recognised in the New Zealand Institute of Architects’ local awards programme, announced in Napier on 9 November, 2012.
The award winning line-up includes: Te Manga Maori Faculty Redevelopment by Paris Magdalinos Architects; the renovation of St Mary Star of the Sea Church by Architects 44 and three housing projects, Bull/McMurray House Alterations by Clarkson Architects, a Havelock North Townhouse by Herriot + Melhuish: Architecture and a bach at Mangakuri by bevin + slessor architects.
Though the number of awards designated this year were comparatively low, the quality of the award-winning buildings was impressive, the Awards jury said.
“It has been a tough year for many architects, and that is reflected in the amount of work the awards jury considered,” said Awards jury convenor, Napier architect Kyla Wilson. Ms Wilson said that although the award-winning projects weren’t numerous, they were certainly various and together provide an indication of the range of projects that architects undertake.
Two projects were also recognised with Resene Colour Awards: Te Manga Maori Faculty Redevelopment and a Havelock North Townhouse.
