2012 Nelson Marlborough Architecture Awards
It was Nelson and Marlborough’s time to shine as the region’s best architectural projects were awarded in the local chapter of the 2012 New Zealand Architecture Awards, announced on Thursday 4 October.
A total of thirteen projects were awarded across five main categories, including two winery projects and seven residential projects. The winning line-up featured work by local architecture practices as well as architects based outside of the region.
Awards’ jury convenor, Nelson architect Jeremy Smith, said the judges were impressed by the quality of submissions and winning projects in this year’s programme.
“The top of the South Island has become one of the hot spots in New Zealand architecture. There have always been able architects in Nelson and Marlborough, but regional development, increased national and even international awareness of the district’s advantages, and a growing appreciation of the value of good design have increased the demand for quality architecture,” he said.
