2012 Southern Architecture Awards
Seven projects ranging from houses to a hotel and a university building redevelopment were among those honoured at the 2012 Southern Architecture Awards evening held on Friday 23 November at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium.
Renovations and refurbishment projects featured prominently in this year’s line-up. The innovative renovation of the Changing Rooms at Dunedin’s Logan Park by Architectural Ecology received awards in both the Small Project and Sustainable categories, while the successful re-working of the University Union building carried out by Parker Warburton Team Architects was a winner in the Interior Architecture category.
Assembly Architects received an award in the Commercial Architecture category for the Arrow Private Hotel in Queenstown, described by the judges as ‘delicately detailed boxes’ that ‘materialise as jewels nestled into the tree-lined hillside’.
Four awards were also given to housing projects, including the Lake Hawea Courtyard House by Glamuzina Paterson Architects; the Dublin Street House in Queenstown by Kerr Ritchie; a house in Arrowtown by Crosson Clarke Carnachan Chin Architects and the Thom Residence at Waititi by Mason & Wales Architects.
