An exciting new innovation for this year’s Interior Awards comes in the form of the updated ‘Craftsmanship’ category – which for 2014 is a stand-alone category created to recognise a bespoke object or solution created specifically for an interior project.

Last year’s winner was a wooden shelving system created by Glamuzina Paterson for Eighthirty café within the Ponsonby Central produce market. The judges applauded “the hand finishing of each of the 40x20mm pine flats employed in the project… and the continuity of detail throughout as well as the restrained use of colour” and noted “the architects’ approach to the design of this simple, repetitive and low-tech system went beyond the call of duty.”

Both 2013 finalists were also of a very high standard - a breathtaking kakano space at Nga Purapura in Otaki, created by Tennent + Brown and an interlocking timber seating system at St Heliers Bay Café and Bistro.

This year the Craftsmanship category can be entered by any New Zealand-based design professional, including interior designers, interior decorators, interior architects, architects and all other design professionals, and entries are encouraged from individuals, groups, partnerships and those working in larger practices.

The 2014 Craftsmanship Award winner will receive a bespoke trophy as well as coverage in the winter (June) issue of Interior magazine and recognition across AGM’s digital platforms and relevant industry magazines.
