A site on the edge of the Alexandra Park racecourse in Epsom, Auckland, is set to be transformed into an urban village by developer The Auckland Trotting Club, Canadian urban planner Joe Hruda, architects RTA Studio and Sydney-based firm Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke.

A series of precincts will flow off High street, which will act as a central spine between Alexandra Park and Greenlane West. The development will include public parks, plazas, retail space, apartment buildings and townhouses.

Included in the development is East Gate, an eight-storey apartment building made up of one-, two- and three-bedroom units encompassing various plan types.

“Architects RTA Studio in conjunction with Sydney based firm Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke have done a brilliant job with much focus on indoor-outdoor flow and maximising big views and optimising light,” chief executive of Alexandra Park Dominique Dowding says.

A showroom has opened inside the building with a palette of natural stone and timber, floor-to-ceiling windows and doors and views across the racecourse. The building’s exterior façade will be clad with iron screens and some units will incorporate outdoor garden rooms. The ground floor will be reserved for retail space.
