Auckland Council says that, with its new Masterplan, it wants to create a city centre that is more family-friendly, more pedestrian-friendly and more environmentally-friendly.

Auckland Council Planning Committee recently approved a refreshed version of the 2012 Auckland’s CIty Centre Master Plan (CCMP), which outlines a 20-year plan for development in the City of Sails. Now, the Council has opened a campaign for public feedback on the proposed plan. Aucklanders can have their say from now until 18 October 2019.

Our Auckland reports that Planning Committee Chair Chris Darby says, “The city centre is changing dramatically. Right now, there is $16 billion of private and public investment underway which will accelerate the transformation of our city centre.

“Aucklanders love our stunning harbour setting and incredible coastline. The vision is for our Waitematā waterfront to be revealed and celebrated, to excite our senses and to toast our rich sea-loving Māori and Pacific cultures and centuries of maritime history.

“To realise this vision, we’re planning to integrate the Waterfront Plan with the refreshed City Centre Masterplan to create a holistic vision that finds a place for all people. It guides a different way of accessing the city-centre, honours heritage, improves air quality and cares for our climate.”

Auckland Council’s Design Office General Manager, Ludo Campbell-Reid adds, “Tell us what you think, encourage others to do the same, and join us to build a city centre we can all be proud of.”

The plan will have the opportunity to be further refined following the public consultation period, with the goal to seek adoption by the Planning Committee in February 2020.
