Oran Park House

Oran Park House is Thompson Health Care’s brand-new aged care facility. Located moments from shopping and transport, it comprises resort-style accommodation, permanent and respite places and 24-hour registered nursing care, along with a café, private dining room, arts and crafts space, cinema, beauty salon and library.

Briefed to design the interior, the talented TSD Studio team got to work creating a sophisticated and luxurious atmosphere for residents and their visitors, while discreetly avoiding overt visual reference to specific medical care finishes.

Essential design elements inspired by the site’s history as Oran Park Raceway included the subtle use of graphics and modern industrial finishes, resulting in a spacious, contemporary interior defined by clean lines, feature colours and high contrast trims.

Having enjoyed previous successful design collaborations with TSD Studio, GH Commercial was able to tie together the various style elements with a series of custom-woven 42oz carpets using our fully customisable Fast Track® programme.

Balancing form and function:

Resident rooms and hallways were kept deliberately neutral, with subtly patterned carpets of variegated earth shades speckled with blue.

The architecture of the Chapel, with its vaulted ceiling and large windows, was offset by a patterned carpet of gently overlapping squares in muted tones, while the Function Room and Bar area called for something more vibrant.

Reminiscent of the type of entertainment venues residents may have frequented in the past, the area needed to evoke feelings of fun and socialisation. Irregular, geometric shapes interspersed with bold borders delivered both energy and timeless style.

“One of the glory moments in this very large project is the ‘Drive In Cinema’, where a gradient, deep-toned carpet and twinkling ceiling lighting provide the mood in the cinema proper and the clever use of the site heritage is reflected in a custom wall covering in the cinema lounge”
