COX Architecture launches studio in Auckland

Marking the establishment of its seventh permanent studio, Australian practice COX Architecture has announced its new design studio in Auckland.
The expansion represents what the practice says is a “commitment to introducing COX’s people-centric approach to architecture within New Zealand.” With a history of contributing to New Zealand large-scale projects, including the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Services Precinct, COX says the new studio in Tāmaki Makaurau signifies an official immersion in the physical and cultural landscape of Aotearoa.
Led by Director Chris Millman, the Auckland studio aims to engage with the local people, collaborate with local talent, and integrate sensitivity to place and context. Millman emphasized the studio’s 60 years of expertise and the importance of building high-quality relationships with local collaborators to ensure familiarity and a guarantee of delivery for clients:
“We’ve built high-quality relationships with local collaborators over the years; people we can trust and who can trust us. This provides local clients with both a level of familiarity and a guarantee that we can and will deliver.”
COX says the practice is guided by four core values: diversity, empathy, more-with-less, and lasting quality:

Zoe Taylor, Studio Lead for the Auckland studio, expressed the team’s excitement in being on the ground in Aotearoa. “The new opportunities and lessons we’ve been presented with are truly inspiring. We are listening to mana whenua, the local people, and are considering the local environments in everything we do.”
