The second bi-annual Metals Week was held recently, with events taking place around the country. Association heavyweights including SCNZ, HERA, NZSSDA, NASH, CTNZ, GANZ, NZMRM and TIDA joined forces to host a number of core events at Auckland’s Aotea Centre including the MRM, Steel Innovations and Metals Industry conferences; association meetings and a careers expo.

The signature event was the Industry Awards Gala Dinner held at the Rendezvous Hotel, Auckland, where 400 industry professionals came together to acknowledge and celebrate business excellence achievements from across the sector.

Metals Week 2015 provided an opportunity for members of the eight participating associations to jointly promote the sector’s innovations and expertise to a broad range of stakeholders including government and industry customers and suppliers.

The gala dinner culminated with the industry’s awards presentations including the SCNZ Excellence in Steel Awards, which showcased the exceptional design and execution possible when steel is used as the principal construction material – with categories ranging from under $500,000 to more than $3 million.

Other awards included the NZSSDA Innovation in Stainless Steel and Design in Stainless Steel Awards; NASH Excellence Award; GANZ Award; CTNZ Casting of the Year Award; NZMRM Best Use of and Design in Metal Roofing and Cladding Award; and, the HERA Metals Industry Exporter of the Year, Metals Industry Innovator of the Year and Keith Smith Memorial Awards.

See the October-November issue of Progressive Building magazine for a wrap up of the Metal Week 2015.
