GHDWoodhead creativespaces strengthens digital focus
GHDWoodhead creativespaces has recently named Olivia Pearson as studio director, national architecture, and she is uniquely interested in the innovation and evolution of digital design technology. In addition to leading a team of 35 architects in studios across New Zealand, Olivia is excited to help the firm stay on top of the rapidly changing world of digital technology for design.
“One of the changes that excites me is using technology to generate multiple design options. We can then evaluate the options against criteria such as aesthetics, cost, reduction in building materials or efficiency. These tools really complement the core design, creativity and judgement attributes that architects have, and help us achieve our clients’ objectives,” Olivia says.
“Having said that, it’s not only a question of using a particular software package. It’s making sure that we can adapt these tools to our projects and ensuring we have the right people, skills, processes and systems to support the evolution in design practice.”
Olivia began her career at GHD and has worked on several major projects in New Zealand, the Middle East and Australia. She has participated in all phases of the design process and was involved in designing Vietnam’s Green One UN House in Hanoi which achieved the country’s highest green building rating. She has been gaining experience around the world before returning to GHD to take on this new leadership role.
Russell Hawken, market leader, property and buildings at GHDWoodhead creativespaces says, “I’m delighted to welcome Olivia back. She brings excellent leadership and project management capability, alongside strong interpersonal skills which will enable her to build relationships with clients and stakeholders and deliver projects that meet our clients’ needs.”
