In the Making: Design from Aotearoa
The exhibition captures a unique and exciting moment in the development of Aotearoa’s contemporary design identity. It brings together a group of designers and makers whose work reflects our local resourcefulness, isolation, craft, cultural character, and material intelligence.
The exhibition offers a view into contemporary New Zealand design practice across furniture, lighting, textiles, objects and cross-disciplinary work. The exhibition is curated by Clark Bardsley and is supported by The Designers Institute of New Zealand.
Bardsley says, “In the Making isn’t a trade fair or a specifier showcase — it’s a movement. A platform for New Zealand’s most considered designers and makers working directly with material, form and process, showing how our geographic isolation and cultural mix continues to produce work that quietly punches well above its weight.”
The exhibition kicks-off with an opening evening celebration hosted by the designers on Friday 6, 6:00-8:00pm. The panel discussion on Saturday 7 March at 10.30am-12.00pm features a curated group of designers and will be moderated by Kim Paton, the director of Objectspace. The discussion will offer a view into contemporary design practices, and insight into the local resourcefulness, craft, cultural character and material intelligence of the exhibitors.
The kōrero gives opportunity to understand the processes and thinking of contemporary designers.
