Melville has made significant contributions to New Zealand’s built environment. With over 30 years of experience, he has been Chief Advisor of Design Assurance at the Ministry of Education where he led the national design review team for school projects, President and Board Chair of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects and served as a member of the steering group for the Construction Sector Accord. He was a Principal at Warren and Mahoney and co-founded RTA Studio in 1999.

Jasmax’s CEO Matthew Glubb commented, “Tim’s industry connections, understanding of procurement, and proven ability to uphold rigorous design standards will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our technical capabilities and deliver excellence for our clients.”

Melville’s diverse portfolio spans masterplanning, education, medium- and high-density housing, commercial and civic sectors. Passionate about tertiary education projects, he has contributed to major developments such as Waipārūrū Hall for the University of Auckland and various educational facilities for AUT. His portfolio also includes the Ironbank office building – the first commercial building to achieve a 5 Green Star As-Built rating, and the highly complex, base-isolated Heke Rua Archives New Zealand facility.

Based in Jasmax’s Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland studio, Melville will work closely with Head of Knowledge & Innovation, Stephen Thurman. This team leads the practice’s technical advisory function, overseeing quality assurance programmes, providing technical delivery support and driving education, training and specialist research & innovation initiatives. Comprising experts in sustainable design, legal compliance, digital delivery, safety and a range of technical disciplines, the team ensures Jasmax can advise clients on quality, compliance, risk management and innovation pathways.

Melville stated, “Joining Jasmax is an exciting opportunity to contribute to projects that raise the bar for quality, value and performance. I’m particularly focused on ensuring lessons learned in the field drive continuous improvement, and on balancing design ambition with practical, commercially sound solutions that deliver long-lasting value for clients and communities.”
