Jenny Duck to lead Herriot Melhuish O’Neill Architects’ new studio
Formerly a part of Herriot Melhuish O’Neill Architects‘ Christchurch studio, Jenny Duck will now be an associate of the newly-established Tauranga studio. Jenny is one of only a handful of female architects in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty region and she says, “I’m excited about providing an alternative architectural practice to those already in Tauranga, and one that’s run by a woman (there aren’t many of those about).”
Herriot Melhuish O’Neill Architects is a founding member of The Diversity Agenda, a platform committed to bringing more women into leadership in architecture and engineering. Jenny says, “It is great to see the launch of The Diversity Agenda and the acknowledgement that, as an industry, we can do better to seek the benefits of a diverse workforce.”
Jenny has over 25 years of industry experience and was a part of the Christchurch studio for five years. While in Christchurch, she worked on several post-earthquake renewal projects and repairs including a major refurbishment of the Gloucester Street Apartments which is now one of the few remaining high-rise apartments in the city.
In Tauranga, Jenny brings her skills and experience to the city and draws on the the wider team to work across both commercial and residential projects. She says, “It’s certainly an interesting and challenging time for Tauranga and I’m still learning about the pressures the city is under.” However, she loves the city and is enjoying the Tauranga way of life.
