Provided by the Ministry of Primary Industries the Matariki Tu Rākau funding for memorial tree planting applications are open now.

Your community can apply for funding to plant trees as living memorials to honour New Zealand’s heroes.

Matariki (the Māori New Year) celebrated in June and July marks a traditional time of harvest, thanksgiving, and remembrance. The new year is marked by the appearance of the Matariki constellation in the sky.

If you are working with a community group, school, marae, council or the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association (RSA), Te Uru Rākau provides funding for (preferably native) trees to be planted on suitable land that is accessible to the public or iwi. This includes parks, places of remembrance, schools, and marae.

This is the final year of funding through the grant. Applications for 2022 are open now. Click here for details and to apply online.
