Meet Inzide: 2021 Interior Awards sponsor
Introducing our 2021 Interior Awards sponsors: Inzide has been sponsoring the Awards since its foundation and supplying sustainable flooring solutions for New Zealand for 25 years.
The Interior Awards have been running for a decade now. What was your favourite interior project over that period – domestic or international?
Steve: There’s a 2013 workplace – a Christchurch civic building – where they have a massive concrete beam that goes across the main foyer/reception that has been cut out, exposing a twist of the reinforcing steel in the beam that still exists. It’s a massive structural element that was removed. Roll on the earthquakes. No damage. I know the engineer was there straight after the earthquake. Talk about risk and design. Plus, I love the way Athfield’s turned a massive concrete ‘70s bunker into a liveable and attractive building.
In this last year of New Zealanders exploring our own country, what was your favourite spot that you discovered (or rediscovered)?
Jarrod: I spent some time in Whangamata in the Coromandel. This was my old stomping ground as a teenager. Now that I am sensible and not a boy-racer, I appreciate what a beautiful place it really is.
Steve: I travel around New Zealand frequently so my favourite spot became being at home with the kids, just chillaxing. What a great hassle-free, stress-free time.
Tell us about one new skill or interest that you’ve acquired over the last year?
Jarrod: Arboriculture – I purchased a few massive power tools (chainsaws) in 2020 and have become the ultimate chainsaw king! I think the passion is mainly because nothing stands in my way. I have become a master at pruning my palm trees.
Steve: Being able to talk to customers about why we cannot deliver their flooring to the dates agreed due to shipping delays. Ninety-five per cent of our orders have gone through fine, but that 5 per cent has caused a lot of re-planning discussions to occur.
What’s one binge-worthy TV show, podcast or other media you’ve found recently?
Jarrod: I went off-grid and spent all my time with my kids. I’ve cherished the time I have had to spend with my young family – that was the shining light of COVID. From exploring our local beaches to building cars with my son and having tea parties with my daughter – priceless.
Steve: I don’t really binge media, but I still love a great book. Blink is my current read. It’s fascinating.
