New Zealanders have been exploring their own backyard this year. What is a spot that you discovered (or rediscovered) here in Aotearoa this year?

Sara: It has to be walking and kayaking the Abel Tasman. That was always on my bucket list and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It really makes me appreciate how lucky we are to live in a country like New Zealand.

Tell us about one new skill or interest that you’ve acquired over this year full of lockdowns and level changes?

Maurice: Patience. Don’t stress the small stuff and just accept that the new normal isn’t normal and just go with it. And a new interest – the America’s Cup! Regardless of how obscene the costs are, it’s pretty cool to see Team New Zealand acknowledged as ‘The All Blacks’ of the sea and ranked 3rd amongst Global Sports Technology teams. Shows what amazingly talented designers we have here in New Zealand.

At a time when we’ve all binged TV, books, podcasts and other media, what was your favourite find?

Dave: A book called The Inner Game of Tennis, first published in 1974, which has become an institutional read for all sports-minded people. It has nothing to do with the strategy of tennis itself but everything to do with the power of the mind and how our bodies are taught and instinctively trained to play the game. It illustrates how much our mind can overpower/talk our bodies out of playing that shot if we let it… Be courageous.
