Ockham Lecture: Towards an Auckland aesthetic with Tania Wong
Ockham’s Head of Architecture, Tania Wong hosts the 2024 Ockham Lecture on March 6th in Auckland. The lecture will discuss the design and collaborative creation of The Greenhouse on Williamson Avenue.
Inspired by West Auckland’s black sand beaches, the Waitakere ranges and Tāmaki Makaurau’s volcanic history according to the architect Tania Wong, The Greenhouse is Ockham Residential’s new nine-storey, 91-apartment, flagship building in Auckland.
Ockham Residential’s Head of Architecture, and designer of The Greenhouse, Wong will provide insight into the project’s design, share stories of collaborative practice and offer a tour of the building.
Wong grew up in the West Auckland suburb of Avondale, and her family has a long history in Tāmaki Makaurau. Her family were amoung some of the earliest New Zealand settlers from China, working at markets in South Auckland and Karangahāpe Road.
Since gaining her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Auckland, Wong has worked on industrial and commercial projects in Toronto, London and Tāmaki Makaurau. Wong has been Head of Architecture on the Ockham Residential team since it was founded in 2009, taking charge of medium-density residential apartment buildings, primarily in Auckland Central.
Supported by Objectspace’s Lead Partner Ockham Residential, the Ockham Lectures are a free annual event made up of panel discussions and lectures on Auckland architecture.
