The Timber Design Centre says they are thrilled to host and coordinate the Timber Design Awards this year — their excitement reflected further by the amount of high quality entries received.

Advances in timber construction capability and the degree of creativity and innovation in wood-based design, has been accelerating at pace; so this year’s categories were expanded to include residential design of multi-unit residential buildings (up to 3 levels), mid-rise building design, hybrid buildings, and innovative timber manufacturing and technology — to only name a few.

Coincidentally, the New Zealand Timber industry are also sharing in our celebrations of all things timber; New Zealand is currently on trend with other prominent overseas countries for increased use of timber in construction.

Robert Finch, director of the TDC, had the following to comment; “Over the decades the NZ Timber Design Awards have been really strongly supported by the design, construction and supply communities in New Zealand. With their return in 2023 coinciding with the much broader recognition of the critical role that timber will play in assisting reductions in CO2 emissions in the building and construction sector, it’s absolutely thrilling to see that a record number of entries has been received.”

The Timber Design Centre would like to extend a huge thank to their sponsors and entrants this year. Without the ongoing support of those within the industry and community, they say these awards would not be the fantastic showcase and networking spectacular that they have become.

Keep an eye out on timberdesigncentre.co.nz and their LinkedIn page for the announcement of the finalists on the 5th of July.
