The Resene Architecture & Design Film Festival is celebrating its 11th year with its biggest programme yet.

The 2022 Resene Film Festival kicks off on Thursday 5 May, with 16 new and critically accalimed films curated by newly appointed co-hosts Art Dept. The films cover a broad spectrum within the architecture and design theme across four categories – Quiet Icons, Creativity, Problem Solving and Importance of Place.

Scroll down to watch the trailers of our top picks from the film festival and find out when films are screening in your area.

Included in the festival’s itinerary will be a number of special events held in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, ranging from a ‘Photography Lovers’ Film Night’ to a ‘Q&A hosted by Architectural Designers New Zealand’ – many including a goodie bag or glass of wine in the ticket price.

In recent years, the festival has come across unforeseen challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic, forcing organisers to cancel the 2020 festival, and that prompted record numbers to attend the 2021 festival in a show of support and enthusiasm. This year, it’s only right that this trend continues.

The Resene Architecture and Design Film Festival 2022 runs in:

  • Auckland: 5–25 May at Rialto Cinemas Newmarket
  • Wellington: 19 May–5 June at Embassy Theatre and Light House Cinema Cuba & Petone
  • Dunedin: 2–15 June at Rialto Cinemas
  • Christchurch: 9–26 June at Deluxe Cinemas
