The APT Innovation in Design Awards 2023: Meet the judges

The APT Innovation in Design Awards 2023 is gearing up to celebrate New Zealand’s most innovative and inspiring projects from across the architecture and design industry that have featured Corian Solid Surface and or Fenix products. With the Awards Gala set for Thursday 7 September 2023, the event will bring together the best and brightest in the field to honour excellence in design.
The submission period is now open. Entries for the awards will close on Wednesday 31 May and the finalists will be announced on Tuesday 1 August. Winners will be unveiled at the Awards Gala on Thursday 7 September. A talented and diverse panel of internationally renowned judges has been assembled to ensure that the winning projects truly stand out for their innovation and creativity.
Murali Bhaskar
Design Director at BOON Architects, Bhaskar is an India-born Architect with over 30 years of experience practising architecture in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Passionate about cultural projects and engaging with mana whenua to promote indigenous story-telling.
Bhaskar’s unique style of New Zealand architecture blurs the boundaries between media, interpretation, art, design and architecture. His key skills include facility planning and stakeholder consultation, organisation of design teams and delivering high-quality and fit-for-purpose project outcomes.
Ingrid Geldof
A renowned kitchen designer from Christchurch with 31-plus years of experience, Geldof’s company, Ingrid Geldof Design, has won more than 55 awards, including New Zealand Kitchen of the Year, three times winner of the Bathroom of the Year, and Laundry of the Year.
Geldof is also a former National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA) president, representing the industry on advisory committees. She combines function with enduring style to create award-winning designs.
Sandro Marini
An architect and designer with more than 25 years experience in packaging, high-tech, design, retail and furnishing materials, Marini was Communication and Art Director at Arpa Industriale in Italy (manufacturers of FENIX), and has won numerous prestigious awards, such as the Interzum Design Award and ADI Compasso d’Oro Honorable Mention.
Marini currently serves as the Art & Communication Director of Musa, the creative lab, communications and design hub for the brands of Broadview Holding.
Massimo Fucci
A Naples-born architect who began his career designing furniture for US department store chains in Milan, Fucci later became an independent architect, working on interior renovation projects. Since 1996, he has been consulting for DuPont, starting with promoting surfacing solutions to Italian design firms and eventually leading product development and innovation projects as part of the Global Strategy and Growth team.
Fucci’s diverse experience and passion for innovation make him a standout candidate for any architectural and design award.
Nicky Duggan
Convenor of the jury and APT co-founder and director, Duggan started in architecture in the mid-90s but was lured into marketing and selling beer at Lion Breweries. She later returned to the building industry, working in senior roles at Carter Holt Harvey and Fletcher Building.
With a passion for marketing, innovation and clever design, Duggan brings more than 17 years of sales leadership and specification experience to the table.
