Thirty-five finalists have been chosen for the 2014 NZ Wood Resene Timber Design Awards.

“As in previous years, the response from the industry has been fantastic,” says Daniel Scheibmair, president of NZ Timber Design Society. “All of the entries for the awards, New Zealand’s only timber design awards, were of a high calibre and the innovation and versatility displayed demonstrates the quality, resilience, acoustic performance, structural strength and sustainability that wood offers.”

A two-stage process, judging will now focus on the selection of the highly commended and winners from each of the seven categories – Residential Architectural Excellence, Commercial Architectural Excellence, Engineering Excellence, Exterior Innovation, Interior Innovation, Indigenous Timber Showcase, Outdoor Infrastructure – to be announced at an awards evening in Wellington on 18 March.

Judges for this year’s awards are: president of NZ Timber Design Society Daniel Scheibmair, president of the NZIA David Sheppard and chief architect at the Department of Building and Housing Duncan Joiner.

Full details for all of the finalists and their projects can be found here.
