It was Auckland’s turn in the spotlight last night as the winners of the 2011 Local Architecture Awards were revealed.

There was cause for celebration at Auckland’s Art Gallery last night as the winners of the New Zealand Institute of Architects’ 2011 Local Architecture Awards were announced.

Several architecture practices made repeated visits to the winners’ podium including Architectus, Herbst Architects, Strachan Group Architects and Warren and Mahoney Architects.

Awards jury convenor, architect Gary Lawson said, “We were presented with a very high standard of work across many building types and scales. One stand-out feature was the significant number of impressive public and commercial projects in the central city area.”
