World Architecture Festival 2014
The seventh annual World Architecture Festival (WAF) is underway at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and after two days of live judging, two Fearon Hay Architects projects have won category prizes.
Te Kaitaka ‘The Cloak’, Auckland, won the Completed Building - Display category award and Dune House, Omaha, won the Completed Buildings - Villa category award.
Te Kaitaika ‘The Cloak’ was named winner by a super-jury, including Architecure New Zealand editor Justine Harvey, overcoming competition from a shortlist of three entries.
The jury commended the project, stating that it demonstrated “an impressive process and experimentation with form and materials, leading to a bold and striking tectonic statement in a bland business park environment.”
The second award-winning Fearon Hay Architects project, Dune House, was commended for its response to its coastal site and its awareness that areas behind and adjacent to the property were becoming progressively built out and developed.
A third New Zealand project, the Regional Terminal at Christchurch Airport by BVN Donovan Hill and Jasmax was also highly commended in the Completed Buildings - Transport category.
By the end of the festival, 33 WAF category awards and one World Building of the Year award will have been announced across the three main sections of completed buildings, landscape and future projects.
