Commencing October 2015Architecture van Brandenburg will exhibit a project titled Architecture Van Brandenburg - Unfurling, which explores the design and construction of the headquarters for major fashion label, Marisfrolg, in Shenzhen, China, at Rocha Art Gallery, San Francisco.

Following on from the 2014 Venice exhibition of the same name, Unfurling will explore inspiration from natural forms and look at the design process through which the headquarters is being achieved. Architecture Van Brandenburg - led by Fred Van Brandenburg, from Dunedin and Queenstown, is responsible for the project. It has been Van Brandenburg’s focus for the past eight years, and no effort has been spared in designing the complex ranging from the master planning through to the door handle design.

The complex is 120,000 square meters of construction, comprising of a series of low lying interlinking buildings located within a 12 acre site, with all the functions ensuring fashion is the central focus of the complex. Looked at from the air, the whole building resembles a bird in flight, while from the ground other natural references can be drawn from materials of stone, recycled bricks and tiles.

When complete, the headquarters will include an art exhibition center, boutique hotel and a fashion show venue, and will showcase a culture of fashion, consistent with the Marisfrolg brand. It will demonstrate the importance of design, from fashion to architecture.

The exhibition has the additional component of work from San Francisco artist, Ian Ross, who is known for his murals and work with Google, Facebook and Whatsapp. Ian’s inspirations also spur from his love of nature. Ian will be showcasing his paintings alongside Architecture van Brandenburg’s nature-inspired 3D forms.
