The House of Waiwera presents RE.COVER
RE.COVER is a mixed media installation, featuring work by Angela Yoo, Lydia Liu, Ricky Wong and Aditi Kumar. The exhibition makes use of “instruments” of the Auckland natural environment to compose a progressive morphing of recast sound and light creating a cover of sensory experience.
Dappled lights and projections on the iconic umbrella; symbols referencing Auckland’s temperamental weather, reinforcing the transition in moods of the natural environments we encounter in everyday life. Sounds generated from the umbrellas emulate the calm and chaos within contrary environments and highlight the odd balance inherent in supposedly different environments.
The waves of calm blue lights which depict the pitter–patter of quiet rain and trickling water morph into a multitude of colours as the rain develops into a full-blown storm. Lights and projections on the umbrellas animate the surface, creating a sensory journey exploring calm and chaos; the progression of an element from serene water to an unforgiving force of nature.
