Urban Topographies

Urban Topographies is a body of work based on a project undertaken by Paul Redican in Hong Kong in 2006 and 2007. Whilst in Hong Kong Redican was inspired by one of the world’s most densely populated urban centers and found it a rich environment to focus on both physical public spaces and the inhabitants of the region.

‘I have always had a fascination with the aesthetic of large scale urban developments and building projects, I think this may stem from growing up with a father who was an industrial photographer during the Think Big era of large scale construction in the 70s and 80s. I find myself drawn to making images that look at scale and place. Many of these urban spaces with their rigid repetition of form and uniformity of structure contrast greatly with the variety of people that inhabit them.’ - Paul Redican.
