The Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) will be in Christchurch this Labour Weekend.

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘We Have the Means’, which focuses on citizen-initiated urban regeneration and sustainability through the reuse of waste materials in design.

The creative director of 2016’s FESTA is Jos de Krieger from Rotterdam-based Superuse Studios, a leader in repurposing materials through design.

Visitors can look forward to enjoying large-scale architectural installations, workshops, talks, pop-up projects, family events, foraging tours, live performance, artworks and more.

The headline event at this year’s FESTA is ’Lean Means’, a temporary city made from reused ‘waste’ materials, where inner city spaces are transformed with immense installations. Live for one night only (22 October), the temporary city will include art, events, music, markets, food trucks, pop-up diners, bars and kids’ activities.

FESTA is a biennial festival celebrating the unique urban environment of Christchurch and the creative urban regeneration that has emerged from it.
