FFWD016: Penny Pirrit

The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning’s annual guest lecture series, Fast Forward, aims to foster debate, discussion and development within the disciplines of architecture, urban planning and urban design. There will be ten events taking place from July to October 2016.

Wednesday 12 October:
Penny Pirrit (Auckland Council, Auckland)
The Auckland Unitary Plan Experience

Engineering Lecture Theatre 439, 20 Symonds Street, 6.30pm.

Penny Pirrit is the Director Regulatory Services for Auckland Council. She is responsible for the Regulatory Services directorate covering the council’s Resource Consents, Building Control, and Licensing and Compliance departments. Prior to this current role, Penny was General Manager, Plans and Places where she led the development of the Unitary Plan, the new resource management plan, for Auckland. Penny has over 30 years’ experience in local government planning practice and is a member of the New Zealand Planning Institute.

A key statutory requirement of the new Auckland Council was the delivery of a single resource management plan for Auckland. Developing the Auckland Unitary Plan has been a massive undertaking not just for Auckland Council but for the wider Auckland community. In addition, the process pioneered a more streamlined process for plan reviews. This presentation reflects on the opportunities and challenges the process presented as well as looking at the implications and next steps resulting from the outcomes.

All lectures start at 6.30pm, are free and open to the public.

The series is recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Architects as an accredited professional development activity, with each lecture attended earning 10 CPD points.
