The Green Room - Wellington
New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) host the Green Room event on 27 August at Stephenson & Turner in Wellington. This evening is all about fresh thinking and peer-to-peer inspiration, with news and views from leading industry experts, alongside networking opportunities.
Three main topics will be covered at the event:
Inside NZ’s first 10 Homestar Built home
Bob Burnett Architecture’s Church Square received NZ’s first 10 Homestar Built rating. It is also the first project in the country to achieve a 9 Homestar Design rating. Some of the sustainable features includes passive solar design, fully insulated foundation slabs, rainwater harvesting and energy recovery shower wastes.
Julie Villard, architect (France) at Bob Burnett Architecture and the Homestar Assessor on the project, will cover aspects of its 10 Homestar rating, including the overall design and built, unique details, challenges that were faced and the sustainable features.
15 Stout street’s award winning retrofit
Completely reconfiguring a Category 2 heritage building is quite a challenge – but today, the exterior of 15 Stout Street (built in 1940) exists in harmony with an impressively modern interior that has been awarded a 5 Green Star Built rating.
Jason Quinn, Lead Engineer at COR Associates and GSAP, will tell us more about this project and the Innovation points achieved – this project was awarded a total of three (out of a possible five) Innovation points in Green Star.
Jason will also tell us more about the project team’s experience of integrating Green Star into the design process, lessons learnt and sustainability features.
NZGBC office fit-out: Actions speak louder than words
If you’re in the business of sustainable buildings, there’s only one way to go when kitting out a new office – as green as you can. Clare Gallagher, Senior Technical Coordinator for Green Star and a member of the design team for the new NZGBC office, will talk about how the NZGBC put its own tools into practice to create a welcoming, low-impact home.
The NZGBC wanted to make the most of the opportunity to design a new office: apart from achieving a Green Star Interiors rating, they wanted to use the office as a learning resource for the industry, a hub for connecting with NZGBC members and for conversations about sustainability in the built environment.
Clare will cover the process of achieving the rating, strategies used, the resources developed in the process and lessons learned.
The event will be held at Stephenson & Turner from 5pm - 7pm.
There will be 20 CPD points and 3.00 ADNZ points available for those who attend the Green Room event.
