Tripartite Economic Summit: Britomart Placemaking
In partnership, Auckland Council, ATEED, DINZ, NZILA, NZPI, NZIA and Ngā Aho have collaborated to develop a suite of design events and cultural experiences for delegates from Los Angeles and Guangzhou for the Tripartite Economic Summit.
As part of this summit, the Britomart Placemaking presentation is about the reclamation of the Britomart area and its subsequent development as a commercial hub on the waterfront, its gradual decline during the twentieth century, and then its rebirth.
Associated issues are the pattern of repeated change to heritage buildings over time and the role of the public in securing political backing for revitalisation of the precinct in partnership with private enterprise.
Keynote speakers are:
- Lucien Law - Seafarers Club
- Jeremy Salmond FNZIA - Salmond Reed Architects
- Nat Cheshire - Cheshire Architects. Nat will talk on Britomart as manipulated capitalism, as laboratory for urban improvisation and reinvention, and as fulcrum for the future of a whole city.
The talk runs from 2 – 3pm.
