A letter from BCI Media Group
These are extremely challenging times to be in the media sector, in particular, the magazine publishing business. Here at BCI, like many others, we have had to make the tough decision to close titles. As a result, had to farewell both great people and great brands.
Having said that, the underlying intent behind the closure of Urbis, Houses and Interior was to keep as many of our talented team employed as possible by ensuring the long-term survival of Architecture New Zealand magazine, ArchitectureNow and Archify.com.
When BCI took over Architecture New Zealand in 2017 as part of the AGM portfolio of publications, we made our position clear to the NZIA and the community – with ownership of Architecture New Zealand came a responsibility to the industry, to the 70-year heritage, to the quality and the future of the magazine and a commitment to continue to publish the best possible journal for the industry. BCI sees Architecture New Zealand as a vital contributor to an increasingly important ongoing dialogue about architecture and as a forum for debate to ensure architecture will continue to be challenged and improved.
BCI has invested in both the magazine and the industry, most recently by funding the production of Tapoto, the thrice-yearly NZIA editorial insert. We have also sponsored, partnered and supported many other industry initiatives and plan to continue doing so, with Architecture New Zealand central to these objectives.
In these unprecedented times, we cannot guarantee that nothing will ever change. No one can. But it is worth noting that BCI Media Group has worked within the architectural communities of 11 countries for the past 22 years, and our support and commitment to the profession is well-known, respected and valued. As long as BCI Media Group continues, you can be assured that you will have our support and commitment.
Dr. Matthias Krups
