Fast Forward lecture series
The 2024 Fast Forward series comprises three lectures, each highlighting a distinguished architect as the speaker. These architects will delve into their unique design philosophies, methodologies and groundbreaking projects through engaging slideshows, offering valuable insights and hoping to spark critical discourse within the architectural community. The series is sponsored by GIB®.

Andrew Maynard
Andrew Maynard began Austin Maynard Architects (then Andrew Maynard Architects) in 2002. Born, raised and educated in Tasmania, Andrew moved to Melbourne after graduating from the University of Tasmania.
He has won many awards, including: the Canberra Medallion; The Eleanor Cullis-Hill National Architecture Award; The John and Phyllis Murphy Award and many more. Andrew’s primary focus has been single residential homes; however, in recent years Andrew and Austin Maynard Architects have delved into multi-residential housing as both developer and architect, resulting in Terrace House (pictured), an 8.2-star sustainable community that won ArchDaily’s Building of the Year award, Gold at the Good Design Awards and a swathe of sustainability and architecture awards; the 9.1-star ParkLife at the Nightingale Village; and Slate House, an 8.2-star development in Brighton.
Andrew was a founding director of Nightingale Housing. In 2022, Austin Maynard Architects won Dezeen’s prestigious Architecture Studio of the Year award.

This talk serves as a book launch for Celebrating Architectural Conservation in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
375,000 words. 592 pages. 60 contributing authors. The book has broad-ranging subject matter extending from the Aleutian Islands in the north to Antarctica in the south and numerous islands in between. As a taster for the book, this session will follow the Pecha Kucha format, with eight rapid-fire presentations from some of the authors of the book’s chapters on Aotearoa, New Zealand, and the South Pacific islands.

Pip Cheshire
Pip Cheshire was the founding director of Jasmax and later the founder of Cheshire Architects.
He served as President of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) from 2014 to 2016, where he oversaw the development of Te Kawenata o Rata, a covenant between the NZIA and Ngā Aho, a society of Māori design professionals.
His prolific output — including work on the Museum of New Zealand and the Britomart urban renewal project in Auckland — and service to the profession has been recognised with a University of Auckland Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003 and Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 2013, the highest individual award an architect can receive in New Zealand.
In the most recent New Year’s Honours list, Pip was made Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to architecture and commitment to the betterment of New Zealand’s built environment.
