Auckland's St James Theatre has had a long and storied past, what does its future hold?

It seems somewhat appropiate that the bibical St James remains can be found at the end of The Camino Way, a long and — what was orginally — tortuous path, full of difficult terrain, unknown challenges and bandits, all ready to pounce on the unwary traveller. A pilgrimage of huge importance to those of a certain faith.

Auckland’s St James Theatre seems reflective of this, and with every passing year the start line was looking further away than ever. The recent announcements of Government and Council funding, may have this project back on course, or at least allow it’s current owners to start thinking and planning what will be needed for the jouney ahead.

The video below is an indication of the current parlous condition of the building and signals what the first step forward need to be. The video’s “Once Upon a Rebuild” title could also be an indication that this may end being a Grimm fairytale?
