Resene in association with ArchitectureNow are bringing Dr Zena O’Connor to New Zealand for a seminar series titled Colour in Architecture and Design: Beyond aesthetics, which will be presented in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in late February. 

An independent research consultant, Dr Zena O’Connor holds a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master’s Degree in Design (University of Technology, Sydney) and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Technology, Sydney.

A trained designer, Zena has worked with a wide range of organisations in the commercial, government and academic sectors and delivers evidence-based insight and research reports and seminars relating to colour in applied design and the built environment, colour psychology, colour in logo design and branding, visual literacy and colour mapping studies.

Zena is an individual member of the AIC (International Colour Association); Colour Society of Australia and the Environmental Design Research Association.

Seminars will focus on effective interior colour strategies including colour and visual literacy strategies to improve traffic flow, way-finding, environmental legibility and achieve appropriate ambience with congruent colours in retail, commercial, institutional and professional interiors.

A second Auckland lecture will focus on façade colour solutions for apartment and commercial buildings, colour solutions that meet local council and heritage requirements, and achieve visual amenity and scenic congruity.

All seminars will cover an array of applied design topics including:

  • Colour attributes and categories
  • The interface between colour and human response, and the factors that influence this interface
  • The diverse origins of beliefs and theories about colour psychology
  • Evidence-based research about colour psychology in applied design and the built environment
  • Practical applications of colour psychology research in applied design and the built environment
  • Elements and principles of design: New applications
  • Colour combination techniques for specific outcomes

There will be 20 NZRAB CPD points and 4 ADNZ CPD points available for each seminar.
