Winner of the 2012 International Holcim Awards is a high school project featuring passive ventilation in Burkina Faso by Berlin-based architect Diébédo Francis Kéré.

The Holcim Awards promotes innovation in sustainable construction through a series of regional and international competitions; with prizes totalling $US2 million.

The Holcim Foundation has identified a set of five parameters for sustainable construction, which serve as a basis for the evaluation of submissions in the Holcim Awards competition. These parameters are:

  • Innovation and transferability – Progress
  • Ethical standards and social equity – People
  • Environmental quality and resource efficiency – Planet
  • Economic performance and compatibility – Prosperity
  • Contextual and aesthetic impact – Proficiency

Registration deadline is Monday, 24 March while the deadline to finalise submissions is Monday, 31 March. Entry is only possible using the online form, which along with further information, can be found here.
