After three long years of pandemic delays, the Auckland Architecture Association (AAA) Tāmaki Makaurau Architecture Awards are officially back for 2023!

The AAA is an independent, volunteer-run, and non-profit organisation established in 1965.

Previously the Visionary Architecture Awards (VAA), the awards have been running for over 40 years, intending to recognise designers who challenge the industry with innovative and provocative forms of design thinking, with a unique focus on the speculative and unbuilt.

Thanks to sponsors, BlumResene and Steel & Tube, this year the awards four categories have been reimagined:

Peripheral – focuses on the artifacts & cross-disciplinary elements of the architectural process.

Narrative – focuses on projects that creatively utilise storytelling and representation.

Degrowth - focuses on projects addressing ‘real world’ problems.

Retrospective – focuses on archived unbuilt projects from design practitioners.

The top 40 projects are presented in a physical exhibition for the awards night, so show your support by entering your projects and coming along to the awards evening.

Dates:

- Entries open 20 March
- Entries close 16 April
- Finalists announced 21-23 April

Final Exhibition:

- Awards night 28 April
- Final exhibition runs 28-29 April

Auckland Old Folks Association, 8 Gundry Street
