Fancy a stay in an architect’s loft with idyllic views of the Manhattan skyline? How about the five-bedroomed, Punta del Este, seaside villa of a visual artist? What about doing so for free (well… a barter, really)?

Behomm (pronounced be-home) is the Barcelona-based website that focuses on connecting designers, visual artists and similar aesthetes from across the globe for the sole purpose of temporarily swapping their highly curated abodes.

Although membership to this site is by invitation-only, those in the creative industries can apply to have owners Agustí Juste and Eva Calduch vet their residences. “Beautiful homes, not luxurious homes” is how they brand it. “Home exchange is not just about finding free accommodations around the world,” says Juste, “it’s about sharing and making personal connections – a prime example of the enriching ‘shared economy’ movement, which is growing across the globe.” To make it even more appealing, a percentage of profits from membership goes directly to Architecture for Humanity.
