Partner content: Jan van Deventer of Matisse discusses the latest project development – Jervois & Lawrence.

Perched on the peak of Herne Bay’s northern slopes is the recently completed Jervois & Lawrence. This urban-style masterpiece comprises 28 luxury apartments that are breathtaking from the ground up. The natural setting of the private courtyards is second to none, while the penthouse suites’ transcendent views are the ingredients to living the dream.

Matisse Contract’s specialist Multi-Home division had the privilege of working with Jervois & Lawrence to provide superior quality, alongside the world’s leading international suppliers for exciting architectural fit outs and interior projects. The Multi-Home division creates skilfully designed kitchen, bathroom, wardrobe, lighting and furniture packages from the finest European suppliers.

The project involved an extensive level of planning and specification, treating each apartment with the same level of attention to detail and design. The perfect fit for this project was the renowned and internationally recognised supplier Arclinea, providing 28 kitchens at various levels and finishes and further extended to storage areas.

Arclinea forms complex yet stunning visual environments. Each feature of their kitchens is attentively refined by legendary Italian designer Antonio Citterio, using evolving technologies. Spaces are newly formed and equally embracing of Italian tradition, local and global design. Innovative cooking areas utilise available space while integrating pioneering functions, and shared spaces meet and exceed the requirements of daily creative use.

The Convivium kitchen embodies a seamless interior flow. First interpreted in 2002, Convivium encourages the pleasure of sharing and socialising. The Convivium Elegant door with integrated handle, realised by lengthy product testing, forms a distinctive solution that is individual to the brand. Combining socialising with cooking, Convivium’s ground-breaking architectural layout is a unique and transversal design.

“The initial briefing for the Jervois & Lawrence project was to exude high-end quality and a luxurious use of style.”

“The project expanded beyond the impressive kitchen designs, extending into the supply and design of wardrobes by MisuraEmme, bathroom vanities by IdeaGroup, and laundries by Arrital. With these four distinguished brands, Matisse was able to not only meet the opulent brief but also achieve the budget that suited a project of this scale,” says van Deventer.

The laundry is fitted out with Arrital’s AK Project; a company producing modern kitchen solutions for over 35 years. The design harmoniously combines both object and material, and the modular system is tailor made for an ergonomic and practical aesthetic. Palo Alto wardrobes by MisuraEmme feature specialist handles, bronze doors, shelving and considered internal carcass finishing.

“From the start, the builders were not only constructing a building from the ground up but designing a building around the Matisse-supplied interior elements,” says van Deventer. “Every apartment was handled with close attention to detail and consideration as if it was a stand-alone home. Almost 16 x 20-foot containers of joinery delivered to the site speaks for the immense scale Matisse put forward towards this project.”

“I was very excited to finally walk into the finished project, seeing all the stunning fixtures installed and looking their best. It once again showed just how lucky we are to be working with such amazing, prominent Italian brands, to be able to deliver and supply not only the quality but the stunning finishes to New Zealand.”

-Jan van Deventer

“Once the apartment owners moved in and the feedback flooded in, it solidified everything we do as a company. Every week we work on a luxury project, and whether it’s supplying furniture, kitchen or wardrobe joinery, each project is unique. That is what sets Matisse in a class of its own, we supply luxury Italian goods, at the forefront of international design, with a collection of the world’s most renowned designers.”

Jervois & Lawrence distinguishes itself as one of the most ambitious projects completed by Matisse in recent years and we look forward to sharing more on our upcoming multi-unit projects with you.
