The Auckland branch of Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA presented APL’s David Waters with the Garvey Cup for services to architecture.

The Garvey Cup, named after Wendy Garvey, who, in 2015, was the first recipient of what was then known as the Auckland Branch Cup, was presented at this year’s Auckland NZIA Local Awards.

Auckland NZIA branch Chair Peter Townsend said its recipient, David Waters, was a great supporter of architects, the profession, New Zealand architecture and the New Zealand Institute of Architects. “Through the generosity of collegial events, investment in technical research and a commitment to professional development, you have encouraged and supported generations of students, graduates and architects here in Auckland and around New Zealand.”

On receiving the award, Waters said he was deeply honoured and humbled to accept the Garvey Cup award for his contribution to the Auckland architectural profession. “This moment fills me with immense gratitude and a profound sense of accomplishment,” said Waters. “First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Auckland Branch, especially Megan Rule, Peter Townsend and Kaitie Corner, for recognising my efforts and bestowing upon me this remarkable honour.”

“In my role as part of the market development team at APL, I have had the privilege of advocating on behalf of architectural professionals. It has been my mission to bridge the gap between architects and our research and development team, ensuring that the window and door systems we create meet the evolving needs and aspirations of the architectural community.”
