How MVRDV is using AI to design its buildings

Steven Rubio of Show it Better looks into the research-based design methodologies at MVRDV that have the practice firmly placed within the “starchitect spectrum,” and how its experiments with AI are pushing architecture forward.

The video features interviews with project leader and architect at MVRDV Cas Esbach, and Fredy Fortich, an architect and technical specialist at MVRDV.

With Midjourney launching in July of 2022, Stable Diffusion in August and ChatGPT in November of that same year, the pace of AI techology is keeping the architecture world on its toes. Esbach says: “AI is growing so fast. You’re out for a month working on something then you come back, and you’re like “Oh wait, what did I miss?”

This is the story of how one of the most avant-garde practices in the world steps into the future with AI as their companion in design.
